This strawberry simple syrup is a burst of fresh and juicy flavors made with just 3 simple ingredients. It's perfect for a wide range of uses, from sweetening cocktails or mocktails to elevating the flavors of your favorite desserts and breakfasts. Make it in less than 30 minutes at home!
INGREDIENTS
1cupstrawberrieschopped
½cupwater
½cupsugar
METHOD
Remove the stems off the strawberries
Heat the saucepan with strawberries, water and sugar over medium heat. Once it starts to bubble, then turn down the heat to a gentle simmer. Let it simmer for 15-20 minutes till the liquid starts to deepen in color.Note: Stirring occasionally to help dissolve the sugar.
Once the strawberry infused liquid starts to thicken and can lightly coat the back of a spoon, then remove from the heat.
Strain the strawberry syrup through a mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a clean bowl. Use the backside of a spoon to press down on the strawberries to extract the most syrup.
Let the syrup cool before transferring to an air-tight glass bottle or mason jar. Refrigerate and use as needed.
NOTES
Use ripe strawberries: For the sweetest, most flavorful syrup I always recommend using fresh strawberries.
Blend well: Ensure the strawberries are thoroughly blended so you can extract the most amount of flavor.
Strain thoroughly: Use a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth to ensure you end up with a smooth strawberry simple syrup for cocktails and other drinks.
Let the syrup thicken: You want the syrup to coat a spoon lightly before removing it from the heat. It will also thicken as it cools.
Simmer, don’t boil: Avoid burning the syrup by simmering, not boiling.
Shake before using: You may see the syrup settling a bit once sits. Just give the bottle a good shake before using it again.
